English Phonics Bug Club

Dear Parents,

First of all may I welcome everyone back for the third term.

Tomorrow, in your child’s notebook you’re going to find a stapled note with your child’s username and password so they can have access to the Phonics Bug club website. In it they will be assigned different activities they can do to revise the phonetic sound that we will be doing, they will also be assigned books that they can read online. I will also know who is reading the books and making the activities.There are also different educational games they can play and earn points.

You’re going to have a meeting regards the teaching of English and how to use this website next Monday 15th April at 9am. The children had a paper in their red box files today about this meeting.

Mother’s Day

Kindly note that in their notebooks, the children have a small paper stapled with the amount of money they need for their chosen mother’s day gift. Kindly note that you can send the money only if you want and it is not obligatory.

Tomorrow children are encouraged to bring a candle or a flower to be put in front of the statue of our Lady of sorrows.

Next Friday is the feast of our Lady of Sorrows. There is going to be a procession from the school to the Luqa Parish church, thus children are being encouraged to bring a flower or a candle to put in front of the statue of our Lady of sorrows.

Dear Parents,

Next Monday 18th March we will start learning the English language. The children will have the white flat file in their red box file. In it they will be given a handout with the letters of the alphabet and the tricky words. The first two tricky words will be coloured in yellow and they have to study these for the following Monday. In the white flat file, they will be given words with the sound that we will be working on every week.

Next Monday, the children will be given a handout so that you will know what the teaching of English consists of and how I will be teaching the different phonetic sounds from week to week.

Next Monday the children have the Maltese dictation but as from the week after, we will be doing the Maltese dictation every Wednesday and the English one every Monday.

Library Books

Dear Parents,

Just a gentle reminder that every Wednesday, the children will be given a library book once in Maltese and once in English. This will be kept in the pink button folder where apart from the book you will have the book lists and you have to sign near the book your child has. Please send it every Wednesday or else the book won’t be changed. Kindly note that if the book is lost, it has to be paid for. Today, the children have the first library books, it was only given to those that brought the pink button folder with them. Please send a pink button folder with your child if you haven’t already done so. If the child finds the story difficult to read, read it for them yourselves while pointing at the words and pictures and ask them any related questions so that you make sure that they have understood the story.

Next Monday’s words are: goff, ċoff, zokk u xokk. Please study them. Next Monday we will also be starting the English language, they will have 2 tricky words to study for the following Monday. I will give you more details later on.

On Tuesday 26th March the children can come to school wearing casual clothes as the school will be organising a fund raising activity for Parkinsons disease. The children are encouraged to bring 1 euro or more as a donation.

Dear Parents,

By next Wednesday, the children need to bring an A4 pink coloured button folder (they have a paper with the information in the red box file). This will be used every Wednesday for the library book. Please sign on the paper provided and send the book with your child every Monday.

It is very important that the children start reading books that they are capable of, such as the Maltese books called Sensiela Fanali Phonics. You can go to any library and borrow them.

Today we started learning how to add (+1) using the bunny hop number line. The bunny hops forward 1 number and it lands on the answer. The same procedure will be done when later on we add bigger numbers. This video may help you understand more how to add using a number line:

The school is organizing a carnival competition for all children as follows:

Years 1, 2 & 3: Mask competition. Children are to draw or make a mask.

Important to write name, surname and class. Three prizes will be given in each category. Masks can be brought to school from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th February. Winners will be announced on Friday 9th February during the carnival activity.

Today’s outing

Dear Parents,

In the photos section, I uploaded some photos of today’s outing. The children really enjoyed themselves on the farm. They learnt how life used to be back in the days on the farm. They saw bee hives, fed the horses and the donkeys and even went in the fields and saw the broccoli and cauliflowers in the field.

May I remind you to study the 4 words they have for dictation for next Monday. These can be found in the children’s notebook.

Tomorrow, in the children’s notebook you’re going to find a short sentence in Maltese stapled. The children are going to read this sentence during the Assembly in February. Please read it at home. We will also be reading it in school every day.

HW for the Christmas Holidays

May I remind you that tomorrow school finishes at 12pm, there will be no Klabb 3-16. Children will come in casual clothes and please bring an empty lunch box for any food or left overs. Get the bottle of water please.

Last 3 days of school

Wednesday: the children need to come with the concert clothes once more tomorrow as we will be doing the concert in front of the whole school.

Thursday: if the children have an angel or a sheperd costume they can come with it to school for the Christmas mass. Those that don’t have will come to school wearing their school uniform.

Friday: we have the school party. Children come dressed in casual clothes. Bring an empty lunch box please. School finishes at 12pm.

Next Monday 4th December we have an outing to the cinema. Children need to come to school with a small bag with lunch, water and the pocket with colours. There are still some children that need to bring the money for the outing.

On Thursday 7th December we have a dress down day in aid of Istrina. The children can come to school wearing casual clothes and they are encouraged to bring 1 euro as a donation to Istrina.

On Monday 18th December we have the dress rehersal for the Christmas concert. Children need to come to school wearing the concert costumes/ clothes. On Tuesday 19th December there is the actual concert and they also have to come to school with these costumes/clothes. On Wednesday 20th December we are going to do the concert again in front of the school children and they also have to wear the concert clothes.

Christmas concert

Dear Parents,

Just a gentle reminder to tell you that tomorrow’s parents day has been cancelled and it is a normal school day for all the children.

Last Monday I stapled a note on your children’s notebook advising you what your child will be wearing for the concert. They have to come wearing these clothes on the 18th (dress rehearsal), 19th (concert day) and 20th December (concert for school children).

The children need to have the following two sets of cards printed in colour, cut and laminated by Monday 13th November.

Write the child’s name with a permanent market at the back of each card. Put the cards in two small, plastic button folders, an orange one for cards set 1 and a blue one for cards set 2. Label the folders. The children need to get also 10 tiny pegs like the ones in the photo below. Label also the pegs.
